Solar energy is energy from the sun; solar energy hits earth in the form of light and heat.
A common definition of solar energy is energy that originates from solar energy.
There are many different ways of converting solar energy into easily usable energy. PV (Photo Voltaic) solar panels convert sunlight into electricity, water heating solar panels convert the heat from the sun into hot water and solar cookers convert sunlight into heat.
About half the solar energy that reaches the earth's atmosphere reaches the earth's surface. The earth’s upper atmosphere and clouds reflect about half of the energy; the earth’s surface absorbs the other half.
